Pandemonium Warden: Part 2 [Aug. 15th, 2008|09:44 pm]
[mood |boredbored]

This post has more to do with the specific details, pictures, and experiences with each individual form. I'm being lazy and not formatting the pictures all nicenice though! Special effects are also off for most of them.

Probably will end up the more interesting of the two updates too.

Also: I would like to thank the other shells and supermanrich in particular for sharing their experiences and encounters with PW before our attempt (only two other shells popped before us, making info on the NM hard to find). It made things a lot easier for us in the long run, and without it I doubt we would've made it as far as we did. Thanks!

And I'd also like to thank lhexh and sylphet for their assistance in making these two updates! My bitches. <3

Pandemonium Warden: The Fight, Strategy, and Experience [Aug. 15th, 2008|03:05 pm]
[mood |busybusy]

I have a feeling I'm going to hit the LJ limit on post length for this, but there is literally so much to be said and so many details I don't think I can really make it shorter. *OK, I really did run out of space. This will be two updates!

This entire post is going to be about every detail I can come up with in regards to the recent PW attempt by BtL this past weekend. There is so much information about this that it took me nearly half an hour just to figure out how to structure this post.

Here is how it will be organized:

Addressing the Publicity
: This will be mostly about our specific experience with this fight, as with how wide this story has grown it has become distorted. Includes comments in regard to the attention this has received, details on dispelling rumors, the intentions of sharing the story, why we fought 18 hours, the strength of our shell, what other linkshells have done, and why this fight as it is now is currently not possible in less time.

General Strategy
: What we did to prepare and plan for the event, as well as what to expect (including gil spent, exp lost, etc). Also includes general strategy for what to expect from most PW forms, general strategy for PW's lamps, and the fight as a whole itself.

Specific Strategy: I'll go through each PW form and lamps and discuss details in regards to their specific difficulty. Each form is unique in its own way outside of what you would expect, so it's important to know all of these details as well. (this section moved to second update)

Conclusion
: Self-explanatory.

I honestly am not sure why I'm writing so much about strategy, when I doubt anyone would really want to try this fight again now... But I suppose it also helps people understand how much difficulty we dealt with.

But here it goes. Oh, and sadly I don't have many pictures, so this is mostly words. :( Next update will have a few more pictures.

Just before it depopped.

Note:  Specific Strategy will be covered in another post, due to limited LJ length per update.

SAM/DRG - Underestimated? [May. 27th, 2008|06:43 pm]
[mood |chipperchipper]

I originally was building a forum post about this (ended up posting it on KI) but then I figured "hey why not, I have an LJ to post this stuff on!" I almost forgot about it. This shouldn't be too long of an update, but it's something!

So here it is. This update has to do with recent tests using SAM/DRG, as well as some of the gear sets I'm currently using for SAM in general. As a quick summary, these are the general topics I cover in this update (not in order):

  1. - /DRG vs /WAR. Parse results & math included!
  1. - When is one "better"?**
  1. - Does VIT still effect Jump damage with DRG SJ?
  1. - Does STR effect Jump/High Jump damage?
  1. - Equipment sets I'm currently using.

I'll tell you right now before I start, that /DRG actually puts out considerably higher output than /WAR for many of the situations I outline. I'm still rather surprised at how powerful it is.

Update is split into 3 main sections... An introduction, /DRG v /WAR (subsections: the facts, the results, the math, and a conclusion), and the equipment sets I'm using.

**Important Note: Not everyone will get the same results as me!

'
zomg ruke did it it mus b 1337 ima go sam/drg n fk shit up' = NO, BAD.

My playstyle is very aggressive, and my gear/merits are practically maxed out. The average situation I'm in is usually beneficial to this as well. If you're not using TP straight away after breaking 100 most of the time, not using JAs very close to when they're ready, and not used to a Provoke-less and Jumping playstyle or alternating Hasso/Seigan and defense gear, your results will differ! Just because it worked for me, doesn't mean it will for you!

Take time to figure out for yourself whether you like it and can use it right, and which fits most for your preferred playstyle. Otherwise you likely won't get better results than /WAR. In addition this takes a little more focus and effort to play it to the full potential, so for some people this isn't for them. I'm just OCD about pushing out every bit I can lol.

But, even you're not interested in /DRG, my tidbits on gear choices may be beneficial to check out. Hope this all helped! :)

A Christmas present of sorts! [Dec. 24th, 2007|06:04 pm]
[mood |geekygeeky]

First, feel free to skip to the update but I can't help but express some happiness concerning RL at present! I'm really pumped up over how this past season went! Semester is finally done, back at home again, and on my first real break in over a year! I haven't had any time to myself since around last winter break. This semester was also the most difficult one thus far, and despite feeling like I slacked more this semester than any other one I still (somehow) managed to score three 4.0s... As well as scoring two independent contractor jobs and an internship, all of which related to my major! Shiny resume go!

Although, next semester doesn't look so fun... I'll be taking the hardest class offered at the college, requiring an average of 12 hours of time spent outside of class meeting and working with your assigned group each week. This is on top of the normal 7 hours of class we'll have each week, and all of it is part of just one class. Add in the 4 other classes I'll be taking next semester and it just doesn't look fun. :(

Anyway, I just had to get some of that off of my chest. Back to the topic of the update!

I'm on my usual vampire schedule already where I'm going to sleep at around 6-8 AM and waking up at 1-5 PM... So it being about 3 AM now with the Christmas Eve festivities long over and the alcohol wearing off, I thought I'd put together a little update as a sort of 'present'! Or well, at the very least just as something informative. I'm just covering one topic in this update but it's something that comes up really often on the topic of deciding WS gear builds. The information in this post should help a great deal in assisting your decision as far as how to best optimize your WS gear for any job; especially jobs that use multi-hit WS.

However, much of what I cover has already been covered by billions of others, billions of times, so there isn't much new to see other than some equations if you're already rather knowledgeable of the endgame workings!

By the end of this post you should be able to understand, recreate, and manipulate the data in this table if you can't already:

As well as understanding how these numbers influence your decisions for WS gear. If you already feel you know enough about this stuff, then entertain yourself by finding mistakes I make!

Or, you could just skip to the end to find my take on what this all means as far as deciding what WS gear is best to wear.

Or, if you don't understand/don't feel like trying to do this just ask me what situation you want to know the numbers for and I'll do it for you.

Or, if it's a well-earned Xmas break and you feel like flipping the bird at anything involving math, come back to read this some other day! (I know this explains how I feel, but forced myself through this anyway!)

Silly FF stuff aside:

Happy Holidays everyone! :)  Best wishes, and a Happy New Years as well!

I'm a procrastinator... [Feb. 4th, 2007|03:42 pm]
[mood |determineddetermined]

Well, after 10 pages of this I didn't have much of a choice but to try to make some time for an update! Honestly I didn't think I'd be able to just because this weekend was pretty packed with work, and this entire semester is going to be really busy. But, I made a little bit of free time each day of the week to get some of the screen shot stuff out of the way, and now I just need to hope this doesn't take more than 4 -6 hours so I can submit a test in time.^^;

But, anyway... Same stuff as usual, I've got a good deal of requests through e-mails/PMs/IMs/etc asking for info/opinions on specific subjects, so now I'm just going to post it all here as a reference! Mostly those topics involve Bahamut V2 strategies, GK results, and parse results, so those will probably be the bigger parts of this update. I'm also posting a lot of older events that took place over the fall/summer that I never got around to posting, since my last all-encompassing update was in June.

And just as a side note, a lot have asked me if I'd be willing to post RNG, WAR, and DRK updates similar to the SAM and NIN ones I've done. Just to answer that question here for anyone else wondering I do plan to do it eventually, but exactly when I do it is unknown. Feel free post/IM/email to recommend or ask anything though, I don't mind and will always get around to it eventually.

All that aside! I'll start off with the usual format, and just as a warning this is going to be another one of those crazy long updates. Possibly the longest!

SAM Update [Nov. 13th, 2006|11:52 pm]
[mood |tiredtired]

As requested like 500 times now (I don't even think that number is exaggerated by much), going to try to put together a quick update!

This update is mostly going to be focused on SAM... A lot of people have asked me to make a NIN-like update/guide equivalent for my other jobs (SAM and WAR mostly), but the real big news now is in the SAM department so I'm going to focus on that. :)

Just last week I obtained Amanomurakumo with a great deal of help and thanks towards members of BtL and BtD (thanks again everyone!). Over the past few days in some of my free time I've been testing its potential and quite honestly it's better than I even imagined. Originally I didn't want to get over-hyped and was pretty sure it'd be a disappointment if I did, but so far it's been everything and more than I ever expected.

Anyway, I'll get more into that stuff later... I'm going to start this off similar to the format of my NIN updates, and review my macros, gear changes, and the different sets of gear I use first in that order. After that I'll go into Amanomurakumo and tests/results thus far.

12/25 edit, Merry Christmas! :)

Ninjer/Windower Guides [Aug. 28th, 2006|06:19 pm]
[mood |blahblah]

Sooooooooooooo... Hi. Been a while since the last update! But I guess what else is new?

I think I'm on an all-time-high with how behind I am; I have about 600 screens to look through and edit (across two computers).. As always I make myself promise to update more frequently after I complete an update so I don't get into this position, but then I go and do it anyway. Some good news though, with all thanks going towards sylphet(thanks again!), I now have a top-of-the-line computer that will replace my laptop for FF play. The screens look substantially better on this computer; just about as good as possible minus Photoshop enhancements (sadly I'm stuck with MS paint still though). So in the future once I get all the screens I wanted to post off my laptop, they will all look a lot better.

Oddly enough though I ended up probably having more free time during college than I did during the summer... Between working full time and often overtime, catching up with a lot of friends from high school that also returned back here from college, my best friend leaving for the coast guard a week ago, a few visitors, and all the normal FF crap... I didn't have much time at all!

So, now I'm on my two-week break between work ending and college starting.. And I haven't really attempted to make the time to go through all those screens, but instead for now I'm going to at least do the thing I promised to for a lot of people quite a few months ago, and make the 'how my NIN works' sequel. I'll also include a quick explanation of windower macros.

Another oversized update... [Jun. 18th, 2006|09:19 pm]
[mood |okayokay]

I was really busy for the following month after my last update; had final exams and a lot of different final papers/assignments to finish up the semester. Including like, the longest paper I've ever had to write, coming out to around 21 pages... SO glad it's all over (3.6!), I must've written over a hundred pages total between all of the work. The weeks after I just completely relaxed and went into lazy mode, putting everything off to just oversleep each day and have no worries. I had a few weeks off, and now full-time work will start  for the summer next week and have had a few different meetings over the last week, so I'm starting to get out of lazy mode and back to working.

So yeah, thirteen different sections of stuff and like 800 screen shots later, I'm going to update! This'll be another really long one... I cut down the number of screens and combined a lot of them so it won't be too much of a lag fest or anything like that. No NIN update yet! I want to get all of this out of the way first.^^;
