FINALLY!!!!

I don't know when I'll get around to posting more info or making a full update, but for now this'll have to do! Horrible screen I made in a rush:

Finally, on our fourth try after incredibly bugged and bad luck with AVs we got him to lock after about three hours of playing around with him tonight. We had our first one that refused to lock at all, a second one that locked 2h but still spammed TP/spells, and a third that locked 2h but still spammed TP/spells and later Meteor/Comet once we got it to 79%.

After finally locking all three on this one, it took a little under an hour to kill. :)

More to come in 2009.

EDIT: Quick summary of the events that unfolded before he locked:

- AV popped after our first JoL kill of the night.

- THFs and RNGs immediately began to train AV to the Auroral Updraft near where Jailer of Prudence spawns, where they would either die or zone back to the main area and just repeat this again and again while we setup PTs.

- The training repeated until the main PTs were all ready, strategy was made clear, and Wynavs were summoned.

- First, we tried to kill a set of Wynavs while a RNG or THF trained AV away, and repeated this over and over for four sets.

- After this we made our first attempt at AV, and tried to damage him and bring down the Wynavs at the same time. But, nearly each time something would go wrong (either it would Manafont, Chainspell, Meikyo Shisui, Benediction, or Hundred Fists) and it'd mess everything up. So most of the time we'd kill Wynavs but fail to kill them at the same time or get AV down to 95% afterwards.

- We retried this strategy over and over about five times, with the most successful attempts getting him down to 94% max (but none succeeded in locking him). In the meantime we noticed that AV used nearly all of his 2hs at least once aside from Mijin Gakure.

- After our fifth (?) attempt at the same strategy above (and around 10 sets of Wynav kills), he resummoned Wynavs at about 95% after just killing a set. We attempted to kill, but wiped. Then I trained AV away, and while training he used Mijin Gakure.

- The attempt after that we wiped out the Wynavs while damaging AV, and that's when he locked. It locked permanently at about 98% after the Wynavs died.

It was incredibly frustrating for all those attempts to fail, but I'm really happy that everyone was still persistent and didn't want to give up. It paid off in the end, great job everyone. :)

Yeah. :)

Me/Faranim/Muteki as DRK alternated Souleater use, it was really good damage combined with full acc gear + acc songs. His evasion and physical defense is crazy though. :\

In between Souleaters a few times I tried to melee with Ori Scythe (97 base damage), and never once hit for more than 0 outside of a critical.

It's meant to show how devastating the difference is in difficulty between a locked AV and an AV spamming 2hs/spells/TP attacks. Once it was locked, it only took an hour to kill off.

Really AV is probably once of the easiest HNMs in the game once locked.

So how do you get AV to lock?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]rukenshin

Quick summary!

-AV popped after our first JoL kill of the night.

-THF and RNGs immediately began to train AV to the Auroral Updraft near where Jailer of Prudence spawns. Where they would either die or zone back to the main area and just repeat this again while we setup PTs.

-Repeated the training until the main PTs were all ready, strategy was made clear, and Wynavs were summoned.

-First, we tried to kill a set of Wynavs while a RNG or THF trained AV away, and repeated this over and over for four sets.

-After this we made our first attempt at AV, and tried to damage him and bring down the Wynavs at the same time. But, nearly each time something would go wrong (either it would Manafont, Chainspell, SAM 2h, Benediction, or Hundred Fists) and it'd mess everything up. So most of the time we'd kill Wynavs but fail to get AV to 95%.

-We retried this strategy over and over about five times, with the most successful attempts getting him down to 94% max (but none succeeded in locking him). In the meantime we noticed that AV used nearly all of his 2hs at least once aside from Mijin Gakure.

-After our fifth (?) attempt at the same strategy above (and around 10 sets of Wynav kills), he resummoned Wynavs at about 95% after just killing them. We attempted to kill, but wiped. Then I trained AV away, and while training he used Mijin Gakure.

-The attempt after that, we wiped out the Wynavs while damaging AV, and that's when it locked. It locked perminately at about 98% after the Wynavs died.

It was incredibly frustration for all those attempts to fail, but I'm really happy that everyone was still persistant and didn't want to give up. It paid off in the end.

Yeah... It's really frustrating.

All this time and no one has found a 100% way of locking him, and instead actually locking AV seems more based on luck than skill/strategy.

I made a joke to Rex after AV as to what it meant when it said "Show me by what principles thou art driven." Possibly patience, perserverance, persistance... but more likely stubborness.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]rukenshin
2006-09-17 01:12 am UTC (link)
Yeah a few died after it locked, including me lol..

It's really easy to handle after it's locked, but it still hits for like 300-400 damage a hit, so occasionally if you mess up a person may die but otherwise it's easy to avoid it. But, in any case it still stayed lock after deaths.
